U.V.I. Global Engagement

The University Office of Global-World Engagement

Welcome to the University Office of Global-World Engagement (UOGWE), overseen by the Associate Provost. Our office provides support and oversight for all of the University of the Virgin Islands' international engagements. UOGW manages education abroad programs; hosts international students, scholars, and facilitates the University's many international partnerships around the world.

UOGWE's mission is to vigorously promote UVI's vision of becoming a truly global university -- the Global UVI -- by providing the resources and support needed to: expand the diversity of our study abroad enterprise; increase and diversify our international student population; and build transformative, strategic partnerships around the world. UOGW  encourages all members of the  UVI  community to incorporate global perspectives in their work, studies, and activities. Therefore, we offer a comprehensive range of international and intercultural educational opportunities for University faculty, staff, and students alike.

UOGWE is comprised of the Office of the Associate Provost and three areas - Education Abroad and International Student & Scholar Advising (EAISSA), China Initiative (CI), English as Second Language Institute (ESLI) and with the director of each reporting to the Associate Provost for Global-World Engagement. The Associate Provost also oversees Faculty & Campus Engagement as well as initiatives such as China

China Initiative, India Initiative, and South Korea Initiative. Together, we serve many students who study abroad each year; international students enrolled at the University of the Virgin Islands; and the faculty who support them all. Please contact us or visit our offices at ACC 227 second floor to find out how we can help you on your path to becoming a global citizen.

GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT PARTNERSHIPS (GEP)

At the core of University of the Virgin Islands' strategy for globalization is the Global Engagement Partnerships (GEP)--a network of strategic partnerships with peer institutions around the world that share our commitment to solving the world's most pressing challenges through a multi-layered engagement of research, faculty, and student collaboration. Building the Global University of the Virgin Islands has three distinct, but interwoven elements:

•  Building global competency by sending students, faculty, and staff abroad.

• Internationalizing the University community by bringing international students and scholars to our campuses.

•  Building a global network of regional partnerships that enable the University to pursue its tripartite mission of teaching, research, and service on the global stage.

The GEP expands access to regional networks of intellectual capital, resources, and funding while capitalizing on the strengths, benefits, and opportunities that arise from a multidisciplinary and multicultural approach to problem-solving. The GEP leverages our intellectual resources with those of other major research universities around the world.  At the same time, it integrates research into our educational programs and provides opportunities for student engagement that build global citizenship and leadership. These strategic partnerships also provide a mechanism for diversifying the regions from which we attract international students and scholars, and they broaden the opportunities for the University of the Virgin Islands students studying abroad.

EDUCATION ABROAD & INTERNATIONAL STUDENT & SCHOLAR ADVISING

Education Abroad and International Student & Scholar Advising (EAISSA), works with the current international University of the Virgin Island students and their dependents. We are part of the University Office of Global-World Engagement (UOGWE) and we advise and assist international students, staff, and faculty with regards to U.S. immigration matters and regulations.
International Students Advising works with over 200 students providing guidance and help for students on maintaining their immigration status while studying at the University of the Virgin Island. Although our office is physically located at the Administrative Conference Center (ACC), we work with international students at all three University of the Virgin Island campus locations throughout the US Virgin Islands.
