Family Medical Leave

The University recognizes that family issues may have a substantial impact on worker's well-being and ability to perform on the job. From time to time it may be necessary to take time from work to care for family members with serious medical conditions, or for personal medical reasons. Therefore, to address these concerns, and to comply with the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), eligible employees may take up to twelve (12) weeks of leave for the employee's own serious illness, the birth or adoption of a child, or the care of a seriously ill child, spouse or parent. To be eligible, an employee must have worked at least 1,250 hours during the 12-month period preceding the leave request and must have been continuously employed by the University for at least 12 months. For additional information, please reference the HR Policy Manual.
