Grant Opportunity Notification

Notices of grant opportunities are distributed to UVI research community on the 15th of each month through our subscription to the Research Development and Grant Writing Newsletter, published by the Academic Research Funding Strategies, LLC of College Station, TX.  Please contact OSP to be placed on our mailing list.

Funding Opportunity Database

Computerized searches of databases of potential sources of funding are available to the UVI research community through the sponsorship of this office. We can assist you in making these searches, or you can try it yourself at the link below:

Identifying Faculty Research Interests

In cooperation with the Provost Office, OSP is working on a computerized ‘Database of Faculty Research Interest and Scholarly Activities’. When fully functional, this information allows us to better match the incoming program announcements with the interests and expertise of UVI faculty and facilitates collaboration between scholars with similar interests or needed expertise.

Notice of Intent to Submit a Proposal (NOI)

As early as possible, faculty and staff members who have identified a funding opportunity and are contemplating submission of proposal for extramural funding must indicate this intention by completing a Notice of Intent to Submit a Proposal (NOI).

This NOI will be used to coordinate resources for support of proposal submission through OSP.  Please attach a hard copy or indicate a URL link of your announcement or request-for-proposal (RFP) on the NOI.  All sources of cash and in-kind matches also must be disclosed on the form.  Forward all signed NOI by e-mail or hard copy to:

Disseminating Information about Sponsored Programs

Consult OSP as early as possible in the process of planning your grant proposal. We receive a wide variety of information from funding sources and can assist you in obtaining program guidelines, application kits, award lists and tips on writing effective proposals.

Liaison with External Agencies

OSP can assist you in contacting the appropriate program director for your area of interests, or for any questions regarding the status of you proposals at the pre- and post-award stages. We serve as the campus liaison to offices of federal, state and private funding agencies.

Guidance on Budget Preparation

Developing a budget requires attention to policies and regulations of your potential sponsor as well as the internal policies governing sponsored programs at UVI. We can assist you in this endeavor by providing tips on developing a budget which realistically reflects the costs of your proposed project, paying special attention to UVI negotiated indirect cost and fringe benefit calculations. You are required to have a budget review done prior to submission of a grant or contract proposal.

Preparation of Forms and Certifications

Frequently, an application will involve the preparation of standard forms and certifications.  OSP can answer your questions about any institutional details to be included.  Faculty may also find it helpful to view our current version of OSP Institutional Fact Sheet which provides information likely to be requested in an application.

Proposal Submission

OSP is the authorized institutionally designated central office that submits proposals prepared by UVI investigators for extramural funding requests. Proposals prepared for extramural funding must first have a required budget review in OSP.  All proposals are due in OSP five (5) business days before agency deadlines and must be accompanied by the approved routing form. After initial signatures of PI and their Chair/Dean or Dept. Directors, the form is used in routing all proposals for the required university reviews through OSP Director, VP for Finance & Administration (request for IDC reduction/waivers) VP for Research & Public Services, Provost and President.
