Mission
The Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) Program's mission is to increase the number of students that are prepared for competitive doctoral programs (PhD) that lead to careers in biomedical research. MARC is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is administered by program director Dr. Teresa Turner. The MARC grant supports students that are pursuing Bachelor degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Computer Science, Mathematics and Marine Biology. ECS scholars supported by MARC must be interested in a career in biomedical research, work closely with faculty mentors on research projects, follow a distinct curriculum and fulfill specific responsibilities. Students interested in learning more should visit our MARC Trainees page for more details.
UVI has had a MARC Program since 1992 is currently on a renewed five-year cycle (2011-2016).
