Six main vessels, ranging from 17 to 45 ft, support the research and academic programs. All vessels are located in Brewers Bay (with the exception of the Blue Runner which is located on St. Croix) just steps away from the MMSC building. Vessels can also be stationed, in the short-term, on St. John or St. Croix with permission from CMES director and dive/vessel supervisor.

Gentle Princess (FLOAT PLAN)The Gentle Princess is a 34ft vessel acquired in 2016. It sports a single diesel engine and can hold 15 passengers. This vessel is used to primarily to transport students to off shore and near shore locations. |
R/V Depth Perception (FLOAT PLAN)The Depth Perception is a 28ft Pro Kat manufactured in 2002 and acquired in 2011. It sports twin outboard Yamaha 225hp engines. It is equipped with GPS navigation, electronic chart plotter, depth sounder and VHF radio. It is heavily used for many different research projects due to is speed and versatility. |
Mako 234 (FLOAT PLAN)The Mako 234 is a 23ft. Mako built in 2006 and acquired in 2015. It has twin 150hp Yamaha outboard engines. She is very fast and is ideal for nearshore or medium range offshore activities. The vessel is equipped with VHF radio and a GPS chart-plotter navigation system. |
R/V Blue Runner (St. Croix) (FLOAT PLAN)The Blue Runner is a 20ft Angler manufactured in 2006 and acquired in 2012. It has one 150hp outboard Yamaha engine. It is quick, easy to maneuver and great for many nearshore activities. It is used mainly by researchers and students for monitoring of nearshore coral reefs. |
Halimeda (FLOAT PLAN)The Halimeda is a 17ft whaler. It has a 90 hp Yamaha outboard engine and can occupy 6 passengers. It is aboat primarily used for student research, near shore research projects, as well as by the UVI dive class. |
R/V Twin Vee (FLOAT PLAN)The Twin Vee is a 17ft vessel with one 50hp Tohatsu outboard engine. It was manufactured in 1999 and is our smallest research vessel. It is used mainly by students doing research in bays close to UVI but is always on hand for whatever needs may arise.

Silverado Truck (VEHICLE USE PLAN)This is a 4 Door / 4WD truck used by UVI students, faculty and staff to either haul equipment or for transportation to and from locations with rugged terrain. It can accommodate up to 6 passengers (including the driver). To be approved to drive this vehicle, a copy of your driver's license should be forwarded to Ian Byrne (ibyrne@uvi.edu - Boat and Facilities Specialist). |
Chevrolet Van (VEHICLE USE PLAN)This vehicle can hold up to 15 passengers (including the driver). It is used primarily by faculty and staff to transport students to locations off-campus. To be approved to drive this vehicle, an administered, online test must be passed and a copy of your driver's license should be forwarded to Ian Byrne (ibyrne@uvi.edu - Boat and Facilities Specialist). |
