The University of the Virgin Islands Offices of the President and Provost are pleased to unveil a Distinguished Culture and History lecture series, featuring new UVI Scholars in Residence, Dr. Tami Navarro, Dr. Hadiyah Sewer, LaVaughn Belle and Tiphanie Yanique. These Virgin Islanders will lead us through a series of lectures on history, music, writing, economics, race, and so much more based on the lived experiences germane to the Virgin Islands. The first in this series will occur at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 23, via Zoom. The public is invited as the University introduces these scholars as they have discussions around their recently published co-authored article entitled “Ancestral Queendom: Reflections on the Prison Records of the Rebel Queens of the 1878 Fireburn in St. Croix, USVI (formerly the Danish West Indies)”.
“It is rare for the University to have four outstanding “Scholars in Residence” whose research is focused primarily on Virgin Islands culture and history,” said UVI President, Dr. David Hall. “All of these scholars are originally from the Virgin Islands, but presently teach in leading universities around the country.”
