The University of the Virgin Islands, Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR), Virgin Islands Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (VI-EPSCoR), Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS) and other partners will take part in the second annual Great Mangrove Cleanup to be held at VI-EcoTours from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on April 13.
This large-scale effort is essential for removing tangled debris lodged within mangrove roots along coastal shorelines. These areas are typically not cleaned during the International Coastal Cleanup (Coastweeks), thus the importance of this event which removes debris from essential marine habitat.
