This training will help service providers such as Speech-Language Pathologist and Occupations Therapists learn ways in which to improve emergency preparedness for people with communication challenges.
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Continuing Education Units (CEU) credits will be provided.
Seminar Topic 2: Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC): Myths and Realities
A community training will take place from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at the Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) office in St. Croix and will be delivered remotely to the St. Thomas Campus in the Teachers Education Building (TED) Room 103.
This training will give introductory information about augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), how it can impact a child’s speech development, and how these devices can be funded. Attendees will be introduced to the Communication Bill of Rights and discussions will dispel some of the common myths and misunderstandings about AAC. Parents, teachers, family members, and community members should attend this training.
