Are you prepared for a hurricane? Yes! Do you know what you need to do in case of an earthquake? Earthquakes occur frequently in the Virgin Islands and the broader Caribbean with very little warning time and have the potential to trigger dangerous tsunami waves.
Science 100 faculty will celebrate International ShakeOut Day on Thursday, October 18. People worldwide will be practicing earthquake safety drills at 10:18 a.m.
There are two ways to participate on UVI's St. Thomas campus:
1. On October 18 at 10:18 a.m. - Drop, cover, and hold on. Join or lead a drill in your class, office, or other campus space.
2. On October 18 from 12 noon through 4 p.m. learn more about earthquakes, earthquake safety, and emergency preparedness including the preparedness tools, such as solar chargers and water filters.
To request participating in a drill on October 18, join the faculty outside of the Classroom Administration Building (CAB) near the Center for Student Success. For more information, contact Dr. Michele Guannel at (340) 693-1284 or email michele.guannel@uvi.edu.
