Hurricanes Irma and Maria taught us how important it is to have our estate planning documents in order before a disaster strikes. To help the community in the preparation process, the UVI-CELL Center has partnered with Legal Services of the Virgin Islands, Inc. to host a seminar on Estate Planning.
The “So You Want to Avoid Probate” seminar will be held 1:00 – 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 10 at the Research and Extension Center (REC-133), located on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. A similar workshop was held on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at the UVI-CELL Center on St. Thomas.
Participants will learn the basics of wills, trusts, the power of attorneys and guardianships, and how creating these legal documents now may help avoid probate in the future. The power of hurricanes and tsunamis will also be discussed during VITEMA’s All Hazards Preparedness presentation. Raffle prizes and certificates will be provided.
Presenters will include Attorney Ronald Belfon of Legal Services of the Virgin Islands, Inc., Attorney Archie Jennings, of the Disabilities Rights Center and Irvin Mason from VITEMA.
To register for the workshop, call (340) 693-1100 or visit http://cell.uvi.edu.
