Honorable U.S. Supreme Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor to Visit the University and Speak at Student Convocation

The University of the Virgin Islands has been selected to host a Student Convocation with the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor, associate justice, United States Supreme Court. This is a historic and unique opportunity for our students and the University.  The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2017 in the Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas Campus. The University will also bestow an honorary degree upon Justice Sotomayor at the Convocation. The event will be video conferenced to the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and transportation will be provided for a limited number of St. Croix students who want to attend the event.

In this Centennial year that marks the legal alignment of the Virgin Islands with the United States, and during the 55th Anniversary of the University of the Virgin Islands, we will be blessed to have in our midst a distinguished member of the highest court of this land, who is the first Justice of Hispanic descent and the third woman Justice in the history of the U.S. Supreme Court.  Below is a link to a biographical sketch of Justice Sotomayor that captures some of her outstanding achievements and contributions to the legal profession and to this nation. See link: Supreme Court of the United States website

Justice Sotomayor is looking forward to meeting with and hearing from our students. Should you have specific questions, please contact the Office of the President at (340) 693-1000.
