2017 Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement to Be Administered to First-Time Freshmen

The Office of Institutional Research and Planning will collaborate with Indiana University for Postsecondary Research to administer the 2017 Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE) Aug. 21 through Sept. 4, 2017.

BCSSE will be administered to all first-time freshmen at UVI. First-time freshmen will need to check Blackboard and their emails for their invitation to take the on-line survey. First-time freshmen will have the opportunity to share some of their high school experiences, as well as their expectations during their first year of college at UVI.

The BCSSE data can aid the design of pre-college orientation programs, student service initiatives, and other efforts aimed at improving student learning during the first year of college.

The results will be used to establish a baseline for assessing the impact of UVI’s first year programs and may be used in many ways, including:

• Recruitment, Assessment, and Improvement

• Curricular Reform

• Academic Advising

• Retention

• Faculty Development

• Accreditation and Self Studies

• First-Year Program Evaluation
