UVI’s Caribbean Green Technology Center (CGTC) will offer training for residents seeking jobs in the renewable energy field on St. Croix. The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry-Level Photovoltaic (PV) program will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 17-21. Classes will be held at the Research and Technology Park on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.
The intensive one-week program provides a basic understanding of the terms and operational aspects of a photovoltaic or solar heating system. The course can be used as a basis for entry into the industry and can lead to other certifications and employment. Upon successful completion of the course, participants can sit for the NABCEP Entry-Level Exam, which demonstrates that they have achieved a basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of the application, design, installation and operation of grid-tied and stand-alone PV systems or Solar Heating Systems.
“This is just the first step in meeting our mandate to develop the solar energy industry across the Caribbean,” said Dr. Wayne Archibald, director of CGTC. “Our goal is to prepare a highly skilled and qualified workforce for employment for this emerging sector.”
