The University of the Virgin Islands Student Government Association (SGA) on the Albert A. Sheen Campus will host its 5th Annual Shadow our Students (SOS): Planting the Seed initiative on Monday, Oct. 26. This year’s theme is “From a Small Seed a Mighty Trunk May Grow.”
This program has provided youth in elementary schools across the island with college experience and opportunities for growth and development.
SOS is intended to bring awareness to youth in the community about higher education and its importance. The initiative is also used to communicate to the youth that their goals are attainable and there is support in the community to assist them while pursuing these goals.
Fostering a relationship between the UVI community and our youth will reinforce the notion of setting goals, pursuing ambitions, and making positive contributions to society. At the end of the program, students should transition from dreamers to believers determined to accomplish their goals and contribute positively to society.
This year’s program intends to provide students with the opportunity to interact with professionals from the community in addition to experiencing college life. They will learn about the benefits of higher education; about opportunities UVI provides that will help them accomplish their goals and more. Previous SOS: Planting the Seed programs have initiated thoughts regarding developing and accomplishing goals among students.
