UVI will host the National Black College Alumni (NBCA) Hall of Fame’s Legacy Lecture Series from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 23, in the UVI Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas Campus.
The Legacy Series will feature Tracy Broughton, Miss America 2011; Demetria McKinney, actress seen on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and the Real Housewives of Atlanta; Shanti Das, former record company vice president and motivational speaker and Emmanuel Lewis, actor – best known for his role on “Webster.” NBCA Hall of Fame Board Chairman Thomas Dortch will act as moderator.
The NBCA Hall of Fame launched the Legacy Lecture Series in an effort to broaden the knowledge and experiences of minority and disadvantaged college students by exposing them to the successes of a diverse group of African American scholars and professionals. Developed in 2007, the Legacy Lecture Series is dedicated to motivating young adults - African Americans in particular - to develop leadership behaviors as they embark on the transition to manhood or womanhood. The lectures focus on the development of professional character, ethical standards, entrepreneurship and leadership skills that will empower the next generation of future leaders as they prepare for and embark upon the ever changing world and work place.
