2015 Beginning College Survey to Be Administered to First-Time Freshman Beginning Aug. 24

The Office of Institutional Research and Planning and Center for Student Success will collaborate with Indiana University for Postsecondary Research to administer the 2015 Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE) from Aug. 24, through Sept. 7. BCSSE will be administered to all first-time freshman at UVI. First-time freshman will need to check their emails for their invitation to take the on-line survey.

First-time freshman will have the opportunity to share some of their high school experiences, as well as their expectations during their first year of college at UVI. The BCSSE data can aid the design of pre-college orientation programs, student service initiatives, and other efforts aimed at improving student learning during the first year of college. The results will be used to establish a baseline for assessing the impact of UVI’s first year program and may be used in many ways, including:

  • Recruitment, Assessment and Improvement
  • Curricular Reform
  • Academic Advising
  • Retention
  • Faculty Development
  • Accreditation & Self Studies
  • First-Year Program Evaluation
Additionally, students that complete the whole survey, will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win either a $200 cash prize, one of three $100 cash prizes, or one of two $75 cash prizes. Students that complete the survey during the first week that the survey is administered will have their names entered in the drawing five times.
