UVI Provost Dr. Camille McKayle has announced that Dr. Simon Jones-Hendrickson has resigned from his position as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences in order to assume the role of Chief Economist and Fiscal Policy Advisor in the administration of Governor-elect Kenneth Mapp. Dr. Jones-Hendrickson began his 38-year association with UVI as a student, and has served as a faculty member and professor of economics, a scholar, department chair and dean. Dr. McKayle thanked Dr. Jones-Hendrickson for his many years of service and for the recognition he brought to the University through his widely celebrated scholarship.
The University plans to initiate a national search for the next dean of UVI’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. In the interim, Dr. Kimarie Engerman has been selected to serve as interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, according to Dr. McKayle. Dr. Engerman is a summa cum laude graduate of Bowie State University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology. She completed post-doctoral studies in engineering education at Howard University and served as principal investigator and co-principal investigator on various grants.

She is also leading the creation of a university wide advising plan, and a junior faculty mentoring plan. Through a recent National Science Foundation fellowship, Dr. Engerman completed a post-graduate certificate program in academic leadership from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
