The University of the Virgin Islands community mourns the passing of Dr. Ededet Iniama, retired professor in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. He taught courses in geography, economics and quantitative methods. Dr. Iniama was a constant contributor to curriculum reform and contributed greatly to his field through publications, presentations at conferences, and providing lectures in various courses across the University. He was a professor at UVI for over twenty years before he retired in 2011.
Born in Nigeria, he graduated from the University of Ife. He continued his education in the United States and received a masters from Northwestern University and his doctorate from Iowa University.
At UVI, Dr. Iniama served in various leadership capacities in the University, including vice chair of the Faculty Executive Committee, faculty trustee, a member of the Graduate Council, and numerous academic, athletic and administrative committees.
The University, working closely with the family, held a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, in the Administration and Conference Center Building in the first-floor conference room.
