UVI’s College of Science and Mathematics and the Etelman Observatory will host the next public observing session using the Virgin Islands Robotic Telescope at the observatory on St. Thomas from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31. Guests will be treated to views of the planets Venus and Jupiter and the full Moon, among other cosmic sights. The evening will also feature a video presentation and lecture describing the development of telescope technology throughout history and how it has changed our understanding of the Universe and of ourselves. "We are pleased to invite the St. Thomas public to join us and enjoy the night sky, views of our galaxy, and a discussion of interesting and exciting topics in the world of astrophysics and space science," said Etelman Observatory Director Dr. David Morris.
This event is presented free of charge to the St. Thomas community. Space is limited. Shuttle service will be provided from the Sibilly School parking lot (near Sibs).
