Fans of UVI’s Bucs lost their pre-season, Paradise Jam match up with LAI foe University of Central Bayamon, 100-93, in overtime on Saturday, Nov. 22. The hard fought game was played in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The Bucs’ scoring was led by Chris Lockhart, with 26, and Trevonte LaRose, with 21, and Chase Thomas, with 13. It was the public debut for UVI’s new head basketball coach Myron Brown, who recently joined the program. The Bucs play late this week in a tournament in the British Virgin Islands.
The men’s section of the 15th annual edition of the NCAA Division I Paradise Jam Tournament at UVI’s Sports and Fitness Center concluded Monday, Nov. 24, with Seton Hall taking the 2014 crown. They downed Illinois State, 84-80.
Action in the women’s tournament follows later this week, from Nov. 27-29. Eight teams in two divisions will be competing. Island Division teams are Clemson University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Ohio State University and Wichita State University. Teams playing in the Reef Division are University of Illinois, the University of Kentucky, the University of Oklahoma and the University of South Florida. Games begin at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, when Clemson takes on Ohio State.

Tickets are available at the UVI Bookstore, Champs at the Tutu Park Mall and at the door. Ticket prices at the door are: $5 for VI children and students – ages 5 to 18 (including UVI students with ID); $10 for V.I. senior citizens 65 or older and military personnel; $15 for V.I. adult residents with local ID; and $35 for non-V.I. residents.
