UVI’s Emerging Caribbean Scientists (ECS) Program is accepting applications for its Math Behind the Science (MBS) Summer Bridge Program. Formerly known as Summer Bridge2Calculus, MBS is a college preparation program for students interested in pursuing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) majors and careers. It is intended to help students meet expectations at a university and be successful in a rigorous college curriculum.
Students eligible to apply include 12th graders who will graduate in June and plan to enroll in college (preferably UVI) in the fall, or current UVI freshmen who have successfully completed MAT 024. MBS is an intensive, six-week residential program, with students living in UVI residence halls on St. Thomas. Residents of St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John are all eligible to apply. This summer’s program runs from June 23 to August 1.
The program is free. All costs for tuition, housing, meals, instructor/staff salaries, books and supplies are covered by a grant from the Science Foundation and other donors. Space is limited. Applications are due by May 15. Late applications may be considered based on space availability. Application forms can be downloaded from the ECS website at http://ecs.uvi.edu. For details, contact MBS Coordinator Aimee Sanchez, at (340) 693-1249 or send e-mail to ecs@uvi.edu.
