UVI students Meritzer Lawrence was crowned the 2014 Homecoming Queen and Hakim Potter maintained the Homecoming King crown in pre-game ceremonies prior to the Buccaneers men’s basketball home opener on Friday, Feb. 7. The Bucs later fell to their Liga Atletica Interuniversity (LAI) opponents American University of Puerto, 74-72, in a hard-fought contest. Other Homecoming Queen contestants were runner-up Kimani Jett, and Tanay Bernen. The evening also featured a special tribute to former Bucs Head Coach Eugene Werts, who died on Jan. 16.
