The UVICELL Center has announced another offering of its Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) program, which prepares students for an exciting career in direct patient care. It also provides a solid foundation for continuing education and career advancement.
The new six-month program will be offered in a blended or hybrid learning environment which will include online course instruction, hands-on lab sessions, group study sessions and a clinical externship with a local healthcare provider. The course is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 24, 2014 and will be held online and at the UVICELL Center on the St. Thomas campus.
Certified medical assistants are an important part of the healthcare industry. They perform both administrative and clinical tasks to facilitate the job of the physician and other healthcare professionals. The position is highly in demand and is slated to remain so for years to come. With the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting the 2010-20 job outlook for medical assistants is expected to grow at a rate of 31 percent.
Students enrolled in the course will learn routine laboratory procedures, taking and documenting vital signs, preparing patients for examination and treatment, technical aspects of phlebotomy and much more.
