UVI’s Buccaneers soccer squad won 3-0 against Catholica in its final match of the opening round of LAI playoffs at the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix on Saturday, Nov. 15. Maxwell Daniel scored the first goal of the game, for an early lead. Teammate Damien James assisted with a corner kick. In the second half of the game, Jordan Atemazem scored with an assist from Kimani George. The Bucs solidified their win, when Damien James scored the final goal of the match. “It was a fantastic game,” said UVI Head Coach David Santesteban. “They did it with a lot of heart.” The team performed well even with Co-Captain and leading scorer Denny Smith away at a conference and one player sick.
The Bucs now advance to a quarterfinal match at home on St. Croix where they will host UPR-Rio Piedras on Saturday, Nov. 22. The match begins at 11 a.m.
