UVI’s Buccaneers soccer squad downed Bayamon, 3-2, in their final match of the regular LAI season on Oct. 15, in Puerto Rico. UVI battled Bayamon to a 0-0 first-half tie, only to fall behind by two goals with eight minutes remaining in the second half. Following that, co-captain Kimani George scored two goals to tie the match, setting up co-captain Denny Smith to follow up with the go-a-head goal. The Bucs finished their regular season with three wins, three losses and one tie. They are undefeated in home play.
Head Coach Dr. David Santesteban scheduled a full-team practice on St. Croix for the weekend, to prepare for post-season play. With several remaining matches between other teams, UVI has a chance of finishing the regular season as high as third place in their division, according to Interim Athletic Director Curtis Gilpin. The LAI playoff schedule will be finalized after those matches are completed.
