Batik for Profit or Pleasure: Art Exhibit and Sale of CES’ Clients’ Creations Begins Dec. 12

UVI Cooperative Extension Service’s clients who have been learning batik fabric dyeing over the last two years will have the chance to show off their final products at an exhibit at the V. I. Council on the Arts on St. Thomas from Dec. 12 through Jan. 9. An opening reception is set for 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, in the Francois Complex on Norre Gade. The exhibition will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

The clients’ batik products, tagged with a “Made in the USVI” label, will be available for sale. Extension Program Supervisor Dr. Caryl Johnson said the main focus of the program is to create opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs. Batik classes were made possible through a grant from the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support was given by My Brother’s Workshop.
