7th Annual Autism Conference Slated at UVI on St. Thomas and St. Croix

The Virgin Islands’ 7th Annual Autism Conference will be hosted at the University of the Virgin Islands on St. Thomas on April 28, and on St. Croix on April 30. Both conferences will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The St. Thomas conference will take place in the Administration and Conference Center. On St. Croix the conference will be presented in the UVI Great Hall of the North West Wing building.

The annual conference is designed to help Virgin Islanders better understand autism and what best practices are in use for dealing with it. The 2014 presenters will be Dr. Somer Bishop and Dr. Ann W. Cox. Dr. Bishop is an assistant professor of psychology in psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and a clinical psychologist at the Center for Autism and the Developing Brain. Development Institute at the University of North Carolina, is the co-principal investigator and director of the National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorders.

 The Autism Conference is jointly conducted by UVI’s Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) and the Virgin Islands Autism Network.  Interested persons can register on-line at http://events.viucedd.org.
