A final push for volunteer cooks to participate in the 2014 anniversary edition of UVI’s ”friend-raiser” Afternoon on the Green” is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, on the popular Face to Face program on WTJX-TV Channel 12. Members of the Afternoon on the Green Committee will be among Addie Ottley’s featured guests. Cooks who volunteer for the 25th anniversary event have a chance to win a trip for two to St. Croix.
This year’s theme is “25 Shades of Green.” The event is scheduled for noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, on the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on UVI’s St. Thomas Campus. Dishes offered at the tasting tent are judged by the community using paper ballot or texting. Prizes will be given to the top three winners in each category – main dish, seafood, vegetables/casseroles, soups, side dish, breads, pastries and sweets, and native drinks. The cook earning the most votes overall will win the St. Croix trip. Persons interested in participating must contact Cherilyn Browne at (340) 693-1040, or email send e-mail to: cbrowne@live.uvi.edu, to confirm their donated dishes. An online registration form is available from this link: Afternoon on the Green Cook Donation Registration Form.
Volunteers are also needed as food servers, child game supervisors, bartenders, ticket collectors, persons to set-up and more. For details, or to volunteer, contact Volunteer Committee Chairperson Kyza Callwood at kyzawood3@yahoo.com or call the UVI Office of Institutional Advancement at (340) 693-1040.
