UVI Students Needed for Research Entitled: ‘Condom Use Among Adult Residents in the USVI’
University of the Virgin Islands students are being sought to participate in a research project titled “Condom Use Among Adult Residents in the USVI.” The research will be conducted by PH.D. Candidate Linneth Thomas–Edwards, who is writing her dissertation in public health with Walden University. Thomas-Edwards received approval from UVI’s School of Nursing, the UVI Institutional Review Board and the University’s Caribbean Exploratory Research Center to conduct the research. Only students 18 years and older can participate and all information collected will be confidential. Thomas-Edwards said that although the diversity of the Virgin Islands population and the high HIV/AIDS prevalence rate are thought to have a direct effect on the culture and health of the population, no empirical investigations have been conducted in the US Virgin Islands or in the Caribbean region. She said the Virgin Islands has the second highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rate after sub-Saharan Africa.
