The public is invited to participate in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s International Survivors of Suicide Day on Saturday, Nov. 23, from noon to 4 p.m. in rooms 102-103 in the Northwest Wing building on UVI’s Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. The event is sponsored by the St. Croix Psychology Club at UVI and the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
The local activity will coincide with similar events in more than 250 cities around the world, when thousands of survivors of suicide loss share in a day of healing and empowerment. Locally, the program will offer survivors an opportunity to hear local psychologist Dr. Ron Herron address the topic of healing after a loved one’s suicide, watch the podcast produced by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and share personal remembrances. There will be tables for survivors to display photographs and tributes to their loved one.
This is the third year that the St. Croix Psychology Club of the University of the Virgin Islands has sponsored the Survivors of Suicide Day event. Student members of the Psychology Club realize that the devastating loss of a loved one through suicide has a continuing effect of on all of us. They are proud to support this day of remembrance and healing.
