Paradise Jam Men’s Division Action Concludes Today; Women’s Play Begins Nov. 28; UMET Snaps Bucs Streak

Action in the men’s division of Paradise Jam 2013 Division I basketball tournament concludes today, with the final round featuring four games beginning at 3:30 p.m. in UVI’s Sports and Fitness Center. Marist plays Morgan State in today’s first game. Loyola Marymount takes on Vanderbilt in a 6 p.m. matchup. The battle for third place begins at 8:30 p.m., with Northern Iowa playing La Salle. Maryland and Providence will clash in an 11 p.m. game that will crown the Paradise Jam 2013 champion.

Play in the Paradise Jam’s women’s tournament runs from Thursday, Nov. 28, through Saturday, Nov. 30. Four games will be played each day, with teams competing in two divisions. The "Island Division" includes squads from Xavier, Duke, Central Michigan and Kansas. Teams playing in the "Reef Division" are Memphis, Texas, Texas A&M and Syracuse. Game times are 2:15 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Details – including men’s and women’s brackets, video from the 2013 press conference and ticket information – are available from the Paradise Jam website: http://www.paradisejam.com.

Tickets are available at the UVI Bookstore. Paradise Jam ticket prices, at the door, are: $5 for VI children and students - ages 5 to 18 - including UVI students with ID; $10 for VI Senior Citizens 65 or older; $15 for VI Adult Residents with local ID; and $35 for non-VI residents.

UVI’s Buccaneers men’s squad lost a close-fought battle in the final minutes Saturday in their traditional Paradise Jam matchup with LAI rivals Metropolitan University (UMET). The Bucs 82-78 loss to UMET also snapped their four-game Paradise Jam winning streak.
