College of Science & Mathematics
Master of Arts in Mathematics for Secondary Teachers
Entry Requirements
The program is open to persons with a baccalaureate degree in Mathematics or a related field. Applicants who did not major in mathematics or a related field must have a baccalaureate degree and a minimum of two semesters of calculus at university level and at least two other mathematics courses at the level of calculus or beyond with a minimum 2.5 overall average and a minimum of 2.5 in all mathematics courses. Counseling and assistance to satisfy the prerequisites are available to applicants who do not satisfy the requirements.
An examination similar to the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) will be administered to each new cohort of students at the beginning of the program to help faculty assess each applicant’s preparedness for graduate study so that experiences for individuals to strengthen academic weaknesses, if the GRE-style test indicates they exist, may be provided. Use of these scores will improve over time as data contributes to our knowledge of the relationship between the score and the student’s level of preparedness.
