I have served as a mentor to over 32 research students at UVI since 2000. My students have gone on to present their work at national conferences, and to enter graduate and medical school. The majority of my former students are pursuing careers in the sciences. I have been researching the population genetics of rare Virgin Islands plants since 2000. Current research projects include population genetic structure of Virgin Islands’ endemic plants, such as Erythrina eggersii (cock’s spur), mangrove trees such as Rhizophora mangle (red mangrove), and local bat species such as Molossus molossus (velvety free-tailed bat). I have served for several years as Chair of the Biological Sciences at UVI. I have been serving as RISE Coordinator on St. Thomas for the past three years.
