Eligibility for admission to the BSN Program

  • Students must have (1) a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (for full time enrollment in the BSN program); and, (2) Achieved a minimum grade of at least “C” in Science Courses.
  • TEAS (all applicants except BSN completion). Minimum of “Basic” proficiency is required.  Effective with the intake of 2021, a 60% score will be required on the science portion of the TEAS.
  • Two (2) Letters of Recommendation (Professors or Supervisors from place of employment)
  • Writing Sample: Write a one-page essay on the following topic: “Nursing: My Career of Choice.”  Write this essay in a minimum of three paragraphs with at least one citation. Font: Time New Roman; Font Size 12; Line spacing 1.5; Citation and References: APA format.

 Progression Requirements

  • To progress in the nursing sequence students must achieve a minimum grade of “C” in all nursing and science courses of the major and maintain a minimum of 2.0 overall average.
  • The Pass Mark to successfully pass a Nursing Course is 75% (courses with the NUR prefix in the course code).   Effective 2016.       
  • Score a minimum of a Level 2 on the ATI Proctored Examination
  • Students must pass both the theory and clinical components of a nursing course.  Failure in any one component will result in a failing grade in the course.  For courses with a clinical component that are to be repeated, the student must take both the clinical and theory portion of the course. 
  • Failure on Two Nursing Courses in the Nursing Sequence, (courses with the NUR prefix in the course code), will result in Suspension.
  • Students will be dismissed on the third course failure.   Effective Fall 2018.

 Additional UVI Graduation Requirements:

  • Students must meet the Computer Literacy requirement during the freshman year.  Transfer students may complete 24 credits before completing this requirement.
  • Student must pass the English Proficiency Examination (EPE)
