The University of the Virgin Islands is following the guidance of the Virgin Islands Department of Health after a student on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix received a positive COVID-19 test on Tuesday, Oct. 6.  The student is experiencing mild symptoms and is quarantined at home. As UVI’s policy instructs, all faculty and students that attended classes with the student have been informed and advised to be tested if they feel unwell. Additionally, all of the classrooms in question have been sanitized. As per the recommendation of VI Epidemiologist Dr. Esther Ellis, persons who have been in contact with an infected person that wishes to be tested should do so 4 to 5 days after they believe they were exposed to the virus. Dr. Ellis also indicated that there is no need for other class members who are feeling well to quarantine at this time. All UVI employees and students on campus are vaccinated.  Classes are equipped with protective shields, and everyone is reminded to wear masks while on campus.  These safety protocols greatly reduce the chance of disease transmission.

UVI will continue to follow CDC guidelines to ensure the safety of our students and employees.  The UVI community is asked to continue to wear masks while on campus and use the sanitizing stations available on campus.

Anyone that is feeling unwell is advised to be tested. Feel free to contact Health Services on both campuses if you have questions.
